Jet Powered YSR Motorcycle
The New Frame Arrives

Sorry for the delay in updating. Things have been hectic here with the arrival of many new items for the bike. The FedEx guy, UPS guy, USPS woman, and DHL guy all know who I am by name now. They will actually stop me if they see me on the way to the store and let me know if I have a package or not. Now that's service!

The new frame pieces have arrived for the bike. Since this is a Japanese frame, there are minor differences as stated before, but they should not be a problem. The first order of business for the frame is to test the fit and placement of the engine in the frame.

The new frame with the engine. Tape measure is for ground
clearance reference

In this image from the side you can see that the engine will be a tight fit in the frame. The frame is upside down, with the steering stem located on the lower left, and the tail on the lower right. Placing the frame upside down made it easier to fit the engine in the frame for fitment. The tape measure is set for the distance from the frame to the ground. You can see the ground clearance that will be available.

A view from the front of the frame shows tight fit of the jet

This view from the front illustrates the width of the motor in the frame. The tight fit will cause clearance problems when the fairings are installed. The body work will have to be modified to clear the plumbing from the compressor of the turbo to the combustion chamber.

The plumbing of the jet nestles into the frame between the
lower frame mounts

Looking closely, you will note the tight fit of the plumbing from the combustor to the turbine, and its proximity to the lower frame mounting points. This tight clearance area is seen right behind the combustion chamber near the tape measure blade.

The overall fit of the jet is tight in the frame, but very workable

Viewing from the rear, it can be seen that the engine is almost a perfect fit in the frame. There is very little of the engine outside of the frame dimensions. The planning of the project was very important in getting these kinds of close tolerances to work. Remember that this is the first time that this engine has been inside of one of these frames.

Welding of the engine mounts will occur at a later date. The engine was removed from the bike frame and put back in the test stand to make further development easier. More parts are arriving on a daily basis, and I expect the computer controls and sensors to arrive by the end of the week.
