Jet
Powered YSR Motorcycle Video
test of the original engine
With things so
busy around here I sometimes run out of time updating the
site. This week I finally got around to making a new video
player for the site and promise lots of video will be making
its way into the pages.
This update,
I am posting a long overdue video of the original engine
operating. I hooked up the old combustor to the engine and
ran it for a few seconds. I didn't want to run it for very
long since I am aware of the problems with the small combustor,
and I definitely want to avoid the overheating. Once again,
I know that the new tried and tested combustor design will
eliminate the heat problems and give the engine much more
power.
Original engine and combustor
This was the
original engine configuration. For the tests in the video
the flexible hose was replaced with hard copper line for
the oil, so that it would not overheat and have another
oil line rupture. A much better oil control system was also
used, replacing the butterfly valve with a bypass valve
setup.
Without further
delay, the video. Size of the video is approximately 600
KB and may take a few minutes to download on a dial-up connection.
The test run of the original combustor.
Push play to watch
The video is
not very long, but serves the purpose of showing that the
engine did run with the small test combustor. Since the
size of the combustor was so small, it was pretty much doomed
from the beginning. Money and time could fix the problem,
but I decided that those commodities were better spent on
other aspects of the project.
The turbine outlet compared to the combustor
plumbing
Once again, looking
at the plumbing from the combustor to the turbine, you can
see that the pipe diameter was too small. The new combustor
will eliminate this bottleneck in the thermodynamic process
by using a formed exhaust flange which was shown being built
in the previous section.
More work on
the bike is being done, and the Chevy Nova is being worked
on in another bay. Be sure to see the Nova pages for the
latest information on the build. Also be sure to keep watching
for an exciting new project which should be coming up soon.
See you soon, and remember to help support the site!
